Bill Sapolu
On August 8, 2023, Honolulu Police Department Solo Bike Officer Bill Sapolu succumbed to injuries sustained on his motorcycle while en route to assist a fellow officer on a weapons call on July 11, 2023. He was transported to a medical center, where he remained hospitalized in with life-threatening injuries, eventually succumbing to his injuries nearly a month later. In his final moments, Officer Sapolu proved to be a hero once again, donating his organs to others in need.
Officer Sapolu served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 22 years, retiring as a flight engineer and decorated combat veteran following four deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He served with the Honolulu Police Department for 21 years. He is survived by his wife, Christina, and their three children, Kayla, Karly, and Kody.
