Use of deadly force justified in Jan. 1 officer-involved shooting
HONOLULU (KHON2) —Prosecutor Alm said in a news conference Wednesday that the HPD officers involved in a Jan. 1 shooting will not be charged as their use of deadly force was justified. That means no charges for any of the 7 officers involved.
In a statement, SHOPO vice president Stephen Keogh says the union agrees with the prosecutor’s findings, saying “(the officers) acted to protect the public and themselves from a dangerous criminal who showed zero regard for anyone’s life but his own.”
“Being a police officer can be tough and dangerous work,” said Alm. “And we should be thankful for them for putting their lives at risk every day, not knowing when they could be shot at or killed, and I really appreciate them willing to take on this difficult but critically important job.”
